Transportation & Access
Where is Nagaoka located?
Nagaoka is a city in Niigata Prefecture on the west coast of Honshu. (Google Map)
It’s about two hours from Tokyo station by Joetsu Shinkansen (bullet train), making it an easy day trip or overnight stay. The city stretches along the Shinano River, surrounded by beautiful mountains and countryside.
How do I get to the venue from Nagaoka Station?
It’s about a 30-minute walk to the main viewing areas. Shuttle buses and taxis are also available but may be crowded.
Tickets
Can I use a resold ticket? Will my ID be checked?
In rare cases, the organizer may check ticket holders’ IDs. While most visitors are not checked, bring a photo ID or passport just in case.
For first-time visitors, we recommend A Area for the best overall view, especially for the Shō-Sanjakudama and “Phoenix” displays.
When is Area A the better choice?
If you are coming by Shinkansen via Nagaoka Station, Area A is strongly recommended. From Area B, it is difficult to catch the last trains—such as the Joetsu Shinkansen bound for Tokyo or Niigata—after the fireworks end.
On-the-Day Tips
Will the Nagaoka Fireworks Festival be canceled if it rains?
The festival is held rain or shine.
However, it may be postponed or canceled in the event of severe weather such as strong winds, typhoons, or flooding.
The final decision on holding the Nagaoka Fireworks Festival will be made at 7:00 a.m. on the day and announced on the official website and social media.
