YOKOSO! Nagaoka Hanabi.com
YOKOSO! (Welcome!)😊
Nagaoka Hanabi.com is an independent guide to “Nagaoka – the City of Fireworks,” focusing on the Nagaoka Festival Grand Fireworks.
We introduce not only the fireworks, but also the city’s history and culture, local gourmet food, hands-on activities at sightseeing spots, and scenic locations that showcase Nagaoka’s beauty.
Nagaoka Hanabi traces its roots back to fireworks displays first held during the Meiji era, and it was revived after the devastation of the 1945 Nagaoka Air Raid, carrying heartfelt wishes for remembrance and postwar recovery. Today, it is a tradition deeply woven into the daily life and spirit of the city.

Our site offers in-depth explanations of the festival’s long history, the significance of its fixed dates (August 2 & 3), and the stories behind signature displays such as the Shō-Sanjakudama, “Phoenix,” and “Niagara Falls.” We also showcase the volunteer spirit, the unique custom of dedicating fireworks, and other traditions that define Nagaoka as the “City of Fireworks.”
In addition to cultural insights, we provide practical travel information—covering the best viewing spots, ticket guidance, transportation tips, local food recommendations, and sightseeing highlights—helping both first-time visitors and returning guests experience Nagaoka and its fireworks to the fullest.
If you want to truly understand and enjoy the Nagaoka Fireworks, you’ve come to the right place.
